"Every artist dips his brush into his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures." Henry Ward Beecher
As a child of the Sixties, I recall the days of having to wear skirts, and tights to school on cold winter days, and trying to find small ways to express my own unique personality through how I dressed. The conformity in style that existed was surely the fuel that fed my creative soul. I began teaching myself to hand sew, embroider, bead fabric and make my own simple patterns when I was in elementary school. Everywhere I looked, my busy eyes saw details and this is when my love of Couture was born.
At the heart of my clothing collection is the antique hand embroidered Canton Shawl. Each pattern for the garments we create begins with a clear visual plan for use of all of the most beautiful elements from start to finish. I study the hand work and from there design my pattern with careful details each step of the way. No matter how small, every fragment is eventually used to create something lovely whether that be a cuff on a jacket, bracelet lining or the band on a hat. We use only naturally made fabrics, embroideries, lace and buttons in this process that I consider to be like sculpting with found objects we are emotionally drawn to. Many weeks go into creating one of our garments because every piece is a hand crafted, one of a kind work of art. As we add silk velvet, lace or piping to a jacket and carefully sew ages old silk fringe into the seam I can hear music in my soul.
The mission of our unique collection is to create heirlooms to wear from lovingly kept antiquities by carefully stitching their magic into our daily lives. We are all wonderfully and uniquely made. There is a goddess, poet, artisan or muse that lives inside us all. Wear your love like heaven, put on your Rose Colored glasses and find a treasure that makes you feel beautiful.
